About me

I am an academically trained translator of French. I translate in a variety of fields, specializing in corporate communications and legal texts. With 8 years’ industry experience, I have proven myself to be a resourceful and reliable partner. My translation business is based in Guadeloupe, an overseas département of France located in the Eastern Caribbean where the average year round temperature is 28°C (83°F) and the timezone is GMT-4.

My background

I received my MA in Translation from Kent State University in 2008 after earning a BA in French and in Economics from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 2005.

My translation experience includes working as an in-house translator for a Franco-American translation agency where I served as the agency’s primary translator for their large accounts with a chemical products company, a beauty/skin care company and a gourmet chocolate company. I gained project management experience overseeing multi-lingual projects at a translation agency located in upstate New York. There, I sourced and coordinated linguists and technicians from around the globe to deliver projects on time and within budget. In 2016, I served as official translator at the Consulate General of France in New York.

My memberships

I hold memberships in American and French professional organizations.

In the United States, I am an active voting member of the American Translators Association (ATA), the largest professional association of translators and interpreters in the United States. I obtained ATA certification from French to English in 2016. As a member of ATA’s Business Education Committee, I help to promote good business practices, serving as co-moderator of its online discussion list, which has 600+ members and received over 2,300 messages in 2015.

In France, I am a member of la Société Française des Traducteurs (SFT), a professional association of translators and interpreters in France.

I am also a sworn translator in English at the Court of Appeals of Basse-Terre, Guadeloupe. As such, I am a member of la Compagnie des Experts près la Cour d’Appel de Basse-Terre.

I abide by the code of ethics of all three organizations.

Where I’m from

I was born and raised in New York City. I grew up with a keen appreciation for both the city’s cultural institutions and its profusion of cultures.

Growing up, I spoke both Chinese (Cantonese) and English at home. However, I consider English to be my native language. I am an avid reader and the books of J. Didion, P. Petterson, and J. Marías have been my recent favorites.
